Billie Shoemaker was born and raised in the coastal town of Beaufort, nestled among the idyllic sea islands of South Carolina’s Lowcountry region. She enjoys writing because even though she still hasn’t figured out what she wants to be when she grows up, telling stories is the only thing she has ever been any good at. A nocturnal creature, Billie prefers to write in the peaceful quiet of late night and on into the wee morning hours. She currently resides in the Orlando metro area with three spoiled cats and an unnecessarily large collection of Minnie Mouse headbands.
Though she tends to stick to writing ridiculous nonfiction memoirs from her life, which is frequently absolute clown shoes, she prefers to read fantasy and science fiction. In fact, her love magical creatures began in early childhood when she frequently dreamed of someday becoming a mermaid. In a twist of irony, she grew up to be roughly the size and shape of a manatee, thus learning to be careful what she wishes for. Also, Billie is thoroughly convinced that all cats are secretly magical. However, she also thinks that all newborn babies look like potatoes, so trust her at your own peril.
Billie holds a B.A. in Creative Writing and English from Southern New Hampshire University. and is currently engaging in the hot pursuit of her M.F.A. in Writing (Emphasis in Creative Nonfiction) from Lindenwood University. Ms. Shoemaker is the author of several flash nonfiction essays, available here on this website. She hopes to one day compile them for print publishing (pending the arrival of a Saturnalia miracle, that is).
When not writing, Billie can be found playing trivia games, procrastinating on social media, and taking long romantic naps on the couch.
Billie is currently seeking literary agent representation.
